PERSONAL.

The appointment of Mr H. M. Peacock, as external examiner in dental surgery for the University of New Zealand, will not necessitate his removal from Masterton.

The engagement is announced of Maisie Edna, only daughter of Mr and Mrs F. V. Kempton, of “Elm Grove,” Greytown, to Ralph Oswald, youngest’ son of Mr and the late Mrs B. R. Rayner, of “Wahi Atahua,” Gladstone.

• Miss Nicol, who has been mistress at the Wangaehu School for the past two years, and who has accepted an appointment in the Hutt Valley, was met at a social evening in the schoolhouse and presented with a rug from the children and parents, the chairman of the school committee (Mr J. M. James) expressing the regret of tho district at losing Miss Nicol’s Services. Miss Henderson, of Wellington, will relieve at tho school pending the appointment of a permanent teacher.

A quiet wedding took place at tho Church of St Andrew, Whareama, on April 6, the contracting parties being Doris Penelope, daughter of Mr and Mrs George Street, of Whareama, and William Isaac Nation, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Oliver Nation, Mount Bruce, Masterton. The Rev B. D. Ashcroft officiated. Miss Mary Street, sister of the bride acted as bridesmaid, and Mr George Street, brother of the bride, as best man The bride wore a pretty dress of crepe-de-chine and silver lace, with veil and orange blossoms, and carried a bouquet of white roses, lilies, and asparagus fern. The bridesmaid’s dress was of eau de nil crepe de chine and her bouquet was of pink roses and maiden-hair fern. Relatives of the bride and bridegroom and a few friends were entertained at a wedding breakfast by the bride’s parents.

Tho marriage took place at St. Patrick’s Church, Masterton, on Monday, of Miss Elsie Hooper, third daughter of Mr and Mrs J. R. Hooper, of Masterton, and Mr George Fitzgerald Petheram, of Palmerston North. The Right Rev. Monsignor McKenna V.G, officiated. The bride was charmingly attired in a rich gown of georgette and exquisite lace. A beautiful shower bouquet and hand-embroiderpd veil with orange blossom completed a most becoming toilette. She was attended by her sister, Miss Irene Hooper, and Miss Alice Petheram, youngest sister of the bridegroom. Misses Vereen Cairns and Patricia Clark, of Upper Hutt, nieces of the bride, were flowergirls. Mr W. T. Duckworth, of Palmerston North, was best man. and Mr N. Hoopor groomsman. Mr Douglas Hooper presided at the organ. Mr and Mrs Petheram left for tho south on their honeymoon.
