POPPY DAY.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR TO-MORROW •The Wairarapa Returned Soldiers’ Association is conducting Poppy Day this year throughout the district. In Masterton, the campaign is under the supervision of the Mayoress, Mrs T. Jordan, assisted by a committee of indies. It is intended to canvass the principal streets in the borough to-mor-row, and to open poppy stalls in Queen Street for the sale of poppies. lu other parts of the district, committees are set up to dispose of the poppies, the arrangements I eing in she hands of Mrs P. Cole (Carterton), Mr H. T. Rees (Greytown), Miss H. Card (Featherston), Mr W. B. Martin (Martinborough) and the Rev. B. D. Ash- > croft (Tinui).
As in past years, it is hoped public will respond to the appeal to purchase a poppy and to wear it on Anzac Day (April 25) as a national symbol of remembrance of fallen soldiers.
After payment for the poppies and overhead expenses, the balance of the fund will he utilised in the Wairarapa district for relief of unemployed ietnrned soldiers. Five thousand five hundred poppies are to be sold for Is each.
