Grigg, of Kuratawhiti Street, who has been recuperating in Wellington, is greatly improved in health and returns to the Wairarapa this week. Mrs. Maefarlane, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. W. J. Reid, a: Greytown, returned home yesterday. Autumn Flower Show. Although the entries were not as large as anticipated, the exhibits made a very effective display, despite last Sunday’s sudden change in weather conditions. There was a particularly fine display of vegetables, apples and nectarines; also a magnificent exhibition of dahlias. An unusual exhibit so late in the season was a plate of fine red currants; also raspberries from the garden of Mrs. T. Fisher. Plunket Society.

Owing to the date of the Horticnl■tural Show falling on the usual meeting night, the Plunket Society will hold its March meeting on Thursday next. The Society is contemplating a campaign for raising funds in the near future. Royal Visit.

There will be a general exodus of school children and residents to Masterton to-day on the occasion of the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York. A considerable number of people propose to proceed from Greytown and Featherston to Cross Creek, where the Royal train will make a short stop to enable the specially tested and overhauled Fell engines to be attached for the ascent to the Summit. Business people throughout the district report a general tightness of money. There is no doubt that the farming community is going through a period of severe financial strain, and this quickly reflects on the prosperity of country towns. The demand for luxuries remains unabated and gramophones, radio sets and othe plea-sure-giving agencies arc saleable without much difficulty on time payment systems. Courts. Tho monthly Magistrate’s Court sitting was presided over by Messrs. D. P. Loasby and W. H. Day, Justices of the Peace, on Thursday. A short list Cf cases was quickly disposed of. Mayoralty. Conjecture and surmise now hints at three starters for the mayoral stakes. There will be at least three vacancies also amongst councillors.
