HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS.

WHERE TO GO. TRAIN AND OTHER ARRANGEMENTS. The holiday attractions in the Wairarapa this year are many and varied. Housewives are advised to secure supplies to tide them over the holidays before 10 p.m. this evening, at which hour the retail shops in Masterton will close, to be reopened on Tuesday. TRAIN SERVICES.

This evening the usual 6.10 Maa-lerton-Cross Creek train will run through to Wellington. On Christmas Day trains will leave Masterton for Wellington at 7.33 a.m. and 2.8 p.m., and for Woodville at 11.22 a.m. Boxing Day: Leave Masterton for Wellington at 7.33 a.m. and 2.8 p.m. and 5.55 p.m.; for Cross Creek, at 10.5 a.m.; for Woodville, at 7.45 a.m., 11.22 a.m., 5.40 p.m.

On Tuesday (December 28) the usual 6,40 a.m. Masterton-Woodville train leaves Masterton at 7.20, and the 6.10 p.m. Masterton-Cross Creek train will run through to Wellington. Special facilities are provided by the Railways Department for those desiring to attend the Palmerston North races. Excursion fares arc available. POSTAL ARRANGEMENTS.

On Christinas Day the Post Office will be closed in all branches; no mails will be despatched and postmen’s and rural mail deliveries will be suspended. The telegraph office will be open from 5 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. On Boxing Day (Monday) mails for despatch will close as usual at 6.30 a.m. and the telegraph office will bo open from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to midnight, other wise the Post Office will be closed and all mail deliveries suspended. A counter delivery of all correspondence (including registered mail) will be made be(ween 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. to-night. TROTTING. Seme first-class trotting should be witnessed at the South Wairarapa Club’s meeting to be held on the Clareville Racecourse on Monday and Tuesday, December 27 and 28. Trains will leave Masterton at 10.5 a.m. on both days, leaving Clareville on the return journey at 5.5 p.m. • ’ TENNIS TOURNAMENT. Martinborough will be the mecca of tennis players on the occasion of the fourth annual South Wairarapa Championship and Handicap Tournament, which commences on Boxing Day and will conclude on Thursday, December 30. OTHER ATTRACTIONS. The Wairarapa Oddfellows’ picnic will be held at the Memorial Park, Greytown, on Boxing Day. A full programme of athletic events has been arranged. Trains and buses will run to suit everyone.

The Mangatainoka sports, as noted elsewhere in this issue, will be held on the Domain on Monday. As the South Wairarapa could not muster a suitable teain, the annual North v. South Wairarapa cricket match, arranged for Monday (Boxing Day) has been postponed.
