TUHIRANGI RIFLE CLUB.

ANNUAL BE-UNION. CHAMPION SHIELD PRESENTED. The annual re-union of the Tuhirangi Rifle Club was held on Tuesday night, visitors being present from Greytown and Martinborough. There was also a large atendanee of members and supporters. Mr. J. W. Kershaw (vice-pre sident) presided, and seated with him were president McDougall, deputy-pre-sident J. H. Te Whaiti, secretary Mun ro, and Mr. J. F. Thompson, of the Greytown Rifle Club. The catering was all that could be expected and reflected great credit on all those concerned. After the toast of “The King,” had been honoured, the following toast list was proceeded with: “Our Guests” was proposed by de-puty-president J. H. Te Whaiti and was responded to by Messrs J. W. Kershaw and J. F. Thompson. The former referred to his pleasure at being present and congratulated the club on the success it had attained during the past, and hoped that they would improve and secure higher laurels. Speaking from what little experience he had had in rifle shooting, he stated that shooting was conducive of good fellowship and companionship. Mr. J. F. Thompson, in reply, was in a more reminiscent vein, and recounted various laughable shooting incidents, which occurred during his career as a rifleman. His remarks caused much merriment. Before concluding he thanked the local club for the hospitality accorded his club at various times. “The Champion of the Club” was proposed by president R. McDougall, and responded to by deputy-president Te Whaiti; song, Mr. Sinclair Thompson. At this stage Mr. J. W. Kershaw handed to deputy-president Te Whaiti the champion shield, and in doing so congratulated him on the honour he had achieved. (Applause). Deputy-president J. H. Te Whaiti suitably responded; “Kindred Clubs” was proposed by secretary K. C. Munro and responded to by Mr. J. F. Thompson; “The winner of the Handicap Cup” was proposed by Mr. G. Te Whaiti and responded,. to by deputy-president J. H. To Whaiti; “The runner-up for the Handicap Cup’’j was proposed .l)y secretary K. C. Munro, and responded to by Mr. P. S. Macdonald; “Runner-up for ■Shield,” proposed by deputy president J. H. Te Whaiti, responded to by president R. McDougall; “The Ladies,” proposed by Mr. G. O. Sutherland, and responded to by Mr. Sinclair Thompson.

The winners of the spoons during the season were president McDougall, deputy-president Te Whaiti, riflemen J. Sutherland, J. Carroll, G. O. Sutherland, O. Anderson and P. S. Macdonald. The medal presented by deputy president Te Whaiti was won by rifleman G. O. Sutherland. Medals were presented to president McDougal] and riflemen P. S. Macdonald as run-ner-up for the Champion Shield and Handicap Cup respectively.

Messrs J. Carroll and J. Sutherland signified their intention of donating a trophy for shooters receiving over 4 handicap. During the evening first class music was rendered by a Maori orchestra from Greytown.
