CARTERTON SHOW
OPENING THIS MORNING. BIG ENTRIES. SHEEP CLASSES A RECORD. Fine weather is all that is required for the Wairarapa and East Coat P. and A. Society’s 49th annual show to be a success. The show opens at Carterton this morning, and judging by the number of entries received, and taking into account the reputation -which many of the exhibitors have gained in the past for the quality of their stock, the dis- j play of live stock should be first-class. ’ Cattle classes are numerically stronger than last year, this being especially so in the dairy breeds which are always a strong feature of this show. It is thought that many exhibitors in the beef breeds, and to a lesser degree in the dairy breeds, reserve the pick of their stock for exhibition at the Royal Show, but a glance at the catalogue is sufficient evidence that these cattle will still be strongly represented. The sheep classes constitute a record, and from the number of entries in some of the classes the judges of this section should have their time fully occupied. The growing demand for New Zealand fat lambs has developed this portion of the industry and the most noted breeders of the famous Wairarapa lamb are represented in full force. All the other sections, such as ring competitions, dairy produce, competitions, dogs and hack classes are well patronised, and the indications are for a very successful show. > Convenient train and motor services are available throughout the day A half-holiday will be observed throughout Wairarapa to-morrow— People’s Day. ,»
