SALVATION ARMY BAND.

A SUCCESSFUL VISIT. The S;.’sutlon Ai:.;y South’Wellington Ban-1 . oncluded a very successful series of programmes in Masterton on Sunday night with an after-church sacred concert under the able leadership of their bandmaster, Mr. It. I. Simpson. The band rendered an excellent programme of high standard. The variety of musical numbers was excel-

lent, two outstanding items being an Army adaptation of Verdi’s “Il Travatore,” and “Memories of Great Masters,” being excerpts of Weber, Wagner, Mendelssohn, Schubert and Beethoven. The team work of the bandsmen in these selections was excellent. The clear, decisive tuneful work reflected ‘credit on the bandmaster. The band’s hymn was quite a revelation of the possibility of producing organ effects on brass bands. Junior bandsman Colley rendered |a very pleasingpianoforte selection. The vocal numbers included quartettes, “Jesus Saviour” “Guide Thou Me,” and a solo by Captain Mahaffie, “My Task.” Adjutant A. Canty, of the local corps, expressed pleasure at the band’s visit. Bandmaster Simpson expressed the sincere thanks of the visitors to thfc various friends who had so kindly acted as host and hostess, providing an excellent home away from home. The band also rendered a programme in the Municipal Park during the afternoon. Adjutant Gill Inglis presided over all the programmes.
