THE LEAGUE TOUR.
NEW-ZEANLAND TEAM DEFEATS YORK. LONDON, October 6. The New Zealand League team defeated York by 19 points to 11. The New Zealand team was: Gregory, Parke. 4, Kirwan, Sanders, Gardner, Webb, Hall, Carroll, Herring, Hendry, Thomas, Peterson, and Avery. Thus there were six changes from the Test thirteen. The visitors scored five gjals and three tries; York a goal and three tries. The great feature of the game was Gardiner’s brilliant kicking. He had only five shots, andall were successful. Peterson scored a try in the first half. The New Zealanders had a single point lead fifteen minutes before time, York, proving a stubborn side. It was the visitors’ superior staying powers rather than their superior football that gave them the upper hand. York began to tire, and Kirwan ’s great forcing try practically settled the rseult, but Gardiner scored a further try. York had the advantage in most of the scrummages, but the visitors were superior in the loose. York failed to throw the ball about sufficiently, thought they tackled well. The visitors’ stars were Gregory, Webb, Avery, and Hendry, who is an old York forward.—(A. and N.Z.).
