OPERATIONS AT WAINGAWA.

HIGH TOTAL OF LAMBS The statistical return of slaughtering carried out at the Wairarapa Frozen Meat Company’s works at Waingawa last season, discloses a sound increase in the number of lambs killed but the killing of sheep has decreased a corresponding number, due primarily to the dry season experienced last year. In common with all other districts the slaughtering of cattle was curtailed, but the number of calves put through was considerably greater than the previous years. It is worthy of note that the number of lambs killed is higher than any year since 1916, which was the record year for Waingawa. Details of the killings are as follows:—

1924 1925 1926 Sheep 84,660 105,047 89,596 Lambs 128,483 138,561 143,714 Cattle 7,039 9,253 5,328 Calves 951 104 2,642
