METHODIST AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF OFFICIALS. The quarterly meeting of officials of Masterton Methodism was held on Monday evening at the Methodist Church, forty delegates attending. The returns showed that there were 260 full members, with 7 on probation, and 150 junior members. A debt of £l4 12/ was carried forward. In order to stabilise finances, a finance committee was appointed to report at next meeting.
The Masterton Sunday School anniversary is to be held on November 7, and the collections are to be devoted to the school funds. The arrangement with Kuripuni for half collections only to circuit expenses—the other half being for local trust funds—was continued for another quarter. Messrs C. E. Daniell, A. J. Donald and A. Williams were appointed a Synod Committee, and Messrs G. L. Asher and W. J. Drew delegates to the NbLicensq Convention to be held in Masterton on October 16.
The reports from Dr. Prior (Home Mission treasurer) showed that over £lOO will be subscribed this year to_the fund, and Mr J. H. Handyside (Foreign Mission treasurer) expects that £lOO at least will be forthcoming by the end of the year.
It was decided that: “This quarterly meeting invites the ministerial supply for the following year.’’ The senior circuit steward (Mr. S. J. Smith) in extending an invitation to Air. Beckett to continue his ministry for a fourth year, spoke of the good work that had been accomplished under Mr. Beckett’s leadership. The usual Christmas Day offering for the young people’s departments, and the retiring collections for the Children’s Home on the Sunday prior to Christmas will be held. The Methodist Times agent reported 65 subscribers. It was approved that services be held every Sunday evening at Solway, and that the churck be offered to the Presbyterians for their monthly week evening service. Mr. Hutter reported on the good work at Solway, and asked for the collections on December 5 for the Sunday school. Arrangements were discussed for the. visit of Dr. C. 11. Laws, principal of the Theological College, on October 31, and November 1, and also for the annual meeting of the Wellington Synod, to be held in Masterton on November 9, 10, and 11. Messrs C. E. Danniell and G. E. A’Sher were appointed circuit synod delegates, with Mr. A. Williams and Mr. W. J. Drew as substitutes. Messrs A. J. Donald and R. Mclver were appointed auditors of the circuit accounts. Letters of sympathy are to bo sent To the Rev. H. T. Peat, of Palmerston North, in his illness, and to Mr. Arthur Hoar, on the death of his father. Representatives of the Sunday School, Bible Classes, choir, local preachers’ staff, stewards and others, spoke in highly complimentary terms of Air. Beckett and his work, and on the motion being put to the meeting, was carried unanimously. The next meeting will he held at Kuripuni on Monday, January 10, 1927.
