SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS.
(“The Age” Special.) The pupils of the Morison’s Bush School on Friday afternoon, under their teacher, Miss Pinfold, presented an entertaining programme in aid of funds for the Barnardo Home. A sum of £1 12/6 was realised. Cemetery Improvement. Recently an effort to provide funds for improving the Maori Cemetery at Papawai was made, when £37 7/6 was raised, and further donations have brought the amount up to £5l 8/-. The work is to be put in hand early in the New Year, and will consist of the erection of concrete entrance posts and concrete posts around the graves Golf. The trophies of the Greytown Golf Club have been won as follows:—Senior championship, H. Feast, A. B. Balfour runner-up; junior championship, A. E. Feast, I. Bunny runner-up; president’s trophy, H. Keltic; challenge cup, S. Bish; bogey competition, A. B Balfour; Mr. H. G. Southey’s troph'y (best score off stick), A. B. Balfour; Mr. A. E. Feast’s trophy, F. C. Bunny’. Ladies: Mr. Balfour’s trophy, Mrs W. J. Feast 1, Mrs. E. G. Thomas 2; Mr. Balfour’s trophy (flag match), Mrs. W.' J. Feast 1, Mrs. Balfour 2; challenge cup, Miss Joan Brunton; Miss Diddam’s trophy, Mrs. Balfour and Mrs. Gregor; Mr. Thomas’s trophy, Miss Bayliss 1, Miss Brunton 2. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Smith, of Featherston, on Saturday evening entertained a number of friends of Miss Chew, who after being on Mr Smith’s staff for ten years, is leaving Featherston. A pleasant evening was. spent with cards and songs. A progressive euchre prize was won by Miss Buge, and consolation prizes went to Mr H. Tutbury and Mrs. Roberts. During the evening Mr. Smith presented Miss Chew, on behalf of the staff, with a gold wristlet watch expressing regret at Miss Chew’s departure, but wishing her success in whatever occupation she chooses to enter. Miss Chew suitably responded. From Betty and Ronnie Smith, Miss Chew received a white xylonite hair brush and comb. Miss Ella Till sang a solo, Misses Frances and Gladys Till a duet, and Miss Dorothy Till and Mr. Maurice Lumley gave' a pianoforte duet. Miss Betty Smith recited, and Mr. T. Thomas gave a recitation. The . singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
