IN A NEGLECTED STATE.

COMPLAINTS ABOUT GREYTOWN CEMETERY

A deputation representing the Ministers’ Association, comprising the W. F. Stent and Mr Kearney, waited on the Greytown Borough Council at its meeting on Tuesday evening regarding the condition of the Greytown cemetery.

Mr Stent stated that complaints were numerous as to the neglected

state of the cemetery, to the amount of litter distributed over the area and to the shallowness of the graves. Signs of neglect were everywhere visible and he thought some\ effort should be made to remove the reproach. Mr Kearney characterised the cemetery as a place of confusion, desolation and neglect. The Mayor said he had no idea the conditions were as bad as mentioned by the deputation. They could rest assured that the Council would do its best to .remedy matters. I Cr Greathead stated that owners of plots had been circularised asking for monetary assistance, but there had been no response. He pointed out that the plots were private property, and the Council had no right to step in and clean them up. The suggestion was ultimately made to the Cemetery Committee that it invite members of the'Ministers* Association to act -in conjunction.
