SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETINGS.

.MASTERTON WEST.

A meeting of the Masterton West School Committee, held last evening, was presided over by Mr. H. E. Davis. There were present, Messrs. J. A. Russell, A. C. McDiarmid, L. Clarke, H. S. Loudon.

Motions of condolence were passed to Mrs. T. Best and Mr. J. J. McCleary. Accounts totalling £3 10/- were passed for payment. The report of the Inspection Committee disclosed that the asphalt area at both schools needed attention and trees required to be trimmed.

Two householders adjacent to the school grounds are to be requested not to deposit garden refuse on the school grounds. •• It was decided to ask the Health Officer to fumigate both schools during the vacation. • Messrs. J. V. Gordon arid A. 8. Robertson were appointed a visiting committeee for September. Mr. Taylor, superintendent of music for the Education Board, recently visited the school and recommended the purchase of a gramophone. The headmaster reported the attendance; percentage as follows: Main school, 84, 89, 87, 89, 86; side school, 84, 90, 90, 81, 70. S MASTERTON CENTRAL. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Central School Committee was held last evening, Mr. J. E. MeV. Calwell presiding. There were present, Messrs. F, Whitton, A. Williams, C. Braggins, A. E. Freeman and G. Masters.

Routine business was transacted and the financial statement was considered satisfactory. Messrs. Calwell, Russell and Braggins were appointed visiting members for the ensuing month. The secretary was directed to request the Education Board to make certain repairs to the school roof. It was resolved to procure a cyclostyle, pictures and class books for the school and a roller for the cricket pitch. The headmaster reported the average attendance for the first six weeks of the quarter as 485, average roll 549, percentage of attendance 88.
