OPERA HOUSE. 1 ‘Mannequin, ” the James Cruze production of Fannie Hurt's 500,00d01, Liberty magazine prize story, comes to the Opera House, commencing on Wednesday. ’ ' Mannequin, ’ 1 is a human interest story with real folk as its characters and with an original idea for its plot as well as several new faces in its dramatic personnel. Dolores CosteMo, a new beauty, Alite Joyce, Warner Baxter, Zasu Pitts, and others of equnl popularity and a new leading man, Walter Pidgoon, who gives promise of a quick rise to favour, interpret the various roles. The picture is lavishly mounted and much attention to detail is in evidence throughout. Reserves at Henderson’s. , COSY THEATBB. “The Lights of Old Broadway,” a Metro-Goldwyn picture will be shown finally at the Cosy to-night. The dual part of Anne de Bhonde and Ophelia O’Tandy was excellently played by Marion Davies, a screen star of real ability who was well supported by the popular Conrad Nagel. The story tells of the adoption of two baby twin girls, whose mother dies in giving them birth on a sailing ship bound to New York from Ireland. Anne is taken by the wealthy de Rhonde family, and is brought up in an atmosphere of wealth [■and refinement, while Ophelia becomes ■ Fely 0 'Tandy, a wild Irish girl, with lan aptitpde for dancing. She is enI gaged for a turn at Pastor’s Theatre, and while there meets Dirk de Rhonde, who falls in love with her. The trials and tribulations of the two, due chiefly to their opposite stations in life, and to their unyielding fathers, are duly overcome, and by the marriage of Fely i and Dirk, the two litttle sisters are ‘ reunited. The setting, particularly the scenes showing the introduction 0f i electric light to Broadway, are good, !and the acting of all the players excellent. Other items on the programme i are a very fine New Zealand scenic of | the big hni at Tikitiki, a Pathe news Gazette and a wonderful Fox comedy. Reserves at Henderson’s.
