RELIEF FOR MINERS.

POSITION VERY BAD.

ACCORDING TO MR. COOK.

LONDON, August 6.—Replying to Mr Baldwin’s statement, Mr A. J. Cook, secretary of the Miners’ Federation, said it was entirely misleading to suggest that the families of the miners are decently looked after. Poor relief often amounted to only 5/ or 6/ for the entire family weekly. Young.,, unmarried men were not getting relief. The conditions could not be exaggerated, and America should realise that the miners themselves are dictating the federation’s policy, and are not being led.—(A. and N.Z.).
