SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS.

(“The Age” Special.) At the annual meeting of the Greytown Croquet Club the following officers were elected:—Patroness, Mrs. W. A. Tate; president, Mrs Fraser Thompson; vice-presidents, Mrs A. Haigh and Miss Wyett; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. S. Stevens; general committee, Mesdames Brunton, Anker, Roche, Gregor, and Miss Udy; ground committee, Mesdames Humphries and Brooks; match committee, Mesdames Gregor, Brunton and Stevens. Two new members were elected. Herd Testing. The annual meeting of the Featherston Herd Testing Association was held on Friday afternoon, Mr E. E. O’Neale presiding. The report disclosed that the net cost of testing for the season was 4/- per cow. It was decided to collect all outstanding fees and then rebate the sum of £lOO to members in proportion to the number of cows under test. It was decided to join the New Zealand Federation of Herd Testing Associations, which aimed at universal methods of testing, coupled with an official marking of calves which are the progeny of cows producing not less than 3001 b of butter fat under test the previous season, and by pedigree bulls. Messrs. E. E. O’Neale, Q. Donald, G. Yule and L. A. Wrigley were appointed delegates to a conference of the Wairarapa Herd Testing Associations, to be held at Greytown.

Bennet Freight. The Wairarapa Federated Dairies’ Association, Carterton, has been advised that the freight on New Zealandmade rennet from July 10, has been reduced from Class A to Class D, which means a reduction of about half. In view of the bulk, the Department could not grant a reduction in freight on empty rennet casks. Dance.

A “hard-up” dance is to be held at West Taratahi on Friday evenihg next, when the aggregate prizes won at the euchre tourneys will be presented. Donations.

The Carterton Boxing Club acknowledges donations of a guinea each from Messrs. A. W. Hall and A. C. McKellar, vice-presidents, and medals for tourneys from Messrs. W. Howard Booth and F. Bradley.
