BIG BLAZE IN NELSON.

BUILDING DESTROYED,

A-egust B.— The premises of the New Zealand Farmers ’ Co-oper-ative Association of Canterbury, Ltd., including the offices, motor car showroom and general stores, and the shops of T. P. Wimsett, men’s outfitter and L. Kitt, boot importer, were totally destroyed by fire shortly after nine o’clock last evening. The Farmers’ Association premises, where it is believed the fire originated, had not been entered since they were closed at midday on Saturday. The fire had a strong hold when it was discovered. The brigade confined most of its attention to preventing the spread of the flames towards petrol depots adjoining at the rear of the Farmers’ Association’s building. The insurances were: £3OOO on the premises, £l5OO on merchandise and stock, and £2500 on motor cars and accessories, all in the Farmers’ Co-operative Office. Three new motor cars and three second-hand cars were destroyed.—(P.A.)
