SURPRISE IN AUSTRALIA.

CHANGE NOT POPULAR. FEARS OF HIATUS IN WELCOME. (Received Friday, 9.45 p.m.\) MELBOURNE, Aug. 6.—Surprise is expressed in official circles at the change in the plans of the Duke and Daehess of York for their Australian tour. The change is not likely to be popular in Commonwealth official circles, the chief weakness lying in the interpolation of New Zealand in tho big organising arrangements. A hiatus is feared in the welcoming enthusiasm, as the Governor-General, the Prime Minister and many other Commonwealth representatives must make a special trip to Fremantle and the ceremonies will then have to be repeated nearly two months later in Melbourne. Had the arrangements been left with the Commonwealth the New Zealand tour would have occurred after tho Australian festivities were finished.— (P.A.)
