CRICKET IN AUSTRALIA.

KIWI’S FACE A BIG SCORE. BLUNT AND PATRICK BAT WELL (Received Sunday 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 3.—New South Wales completed their rirst innings for 531. New Zealand opened well, Blunt playing a beautiful innings, but after Lowry and Da ere had been dismissed for six each, and the board read 162 for 5 wickets New Zealand’s position looked pretty bad. The partnership of Patrick and Allcott, however improved the position and the side has every chance to stave off a follow on. Scores: — New South Wales first innings 531 (R. Bardsley 87, Nicholls 47), Bowling: Cunningham 5/125, Allcott 2/112, Mcßeath 1/76, Patrick 1/52). New Zealand 282 for 3 wickets (Worker 30, Blunt 73, Oliver 23, Patrick in 71, Allcott in 51.) —(P.A.) SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH. SOUTH AUSTRALIA v. VICTORIA. (Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 3.—South Australia lost six wickets for 321 runs (A. Richardson. 41, Bymill in 104, V. Richardson 56, Alexander in 74). Play was re-commenced in intense heat and on a good wicket. It was a day for the Colts, Rymill and Alexander trouncing the bowling. Each batted with fine, free style, scoring all round the wicket, but on the whole the day’s play was uninteresting.—(P.A.)
