BOWLING.

WAIRARAPA CENTRE. NEW YEAR TOURNEY. For the second day of the Wairarapa Bowling Centre’s New Year tourney on the Masterton green on the weather was again unpleasant. Although there was insufficient rain to prevent play a fairly stiff southerly breeze had its effect on the bowling. Thurston, McCalden, Morton and Kerr (Masterton) played well throughout the tournament, going through the six rounds without a loss. Much interest centred in their final game, against Parton, Simmonds, Dykes and Hughan (Carterton). At the 12th head they were 13 all and, with 7 heads to go, the scores were 16—14. From then on Kerr put on 3, 5 and 2 to Hughan’s 1, winning by 26 to 16. The runners-up in the A section were Fielding (Hataitai), and Ramsay (Hataitai), with 5 wins and one less each.

I In the B section Taylor, Hazelwood, Cooper and Crawford (Hataitai) and ’ Smith, Hart, Fisher and Whyte (Car- ; terton) lead with 5 wins and one loss 1 each. The runners-up were the rinks ’ skipped by Laws (Newtown) and | Woolley, with 4 wins and two losses ( eaeji. j At an interval in the afternoon, Mr ' A. W. Chapman, on behalf of the Masterton Club, referred to the splen- ; did assistance given to Wairarapa bowling by Mr R. Ramsay (Hataitai) , and presented him with an excellent j little watercolour caricature of Messrs I Ramsay and D. Reynolds in convivial 1 mood.
