FIRE AT ALFREDTON.

ACCOMMODATION HOUSE DESTROYED. The Alfred ton boarding house, an old landmark on the main road between Pongaroa and Masterton was totally destroyed by fire yesterday soon after midday. Owing to restricted telephone communication with that locality no details of the occurrence were available yesterday. It w r aa learned, however, that everything was lost. The building was owned by Mrs A. J. Rutherford,*and occupied by Mr and Mrs T. Hartley, who have conducted the establishment as an accommodation house for some yean. The structure, which is of twostoreys and contains about 20 rooms, was originally the Alfredton sHotei. It has been a useful and convenient stopping place for travellers on this road, especially in former years before the adven of motor traffic. Mr Hartley had £350 insurance on the contents, and it is understood that the building was also covered.
