HOSPITAL BOARD.

81-MONTHLY MEETING. The bi-monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board was held yesterday, there being present Mr E (4. Eton (ehairman), Mrs W. H. Jackson, Messrs W. Fisher, S. Bolton, J. C. Ewington, W. B. Matheson, C. C. Jackson, R. B. Robertson, W. I. Arm strong J. F. Thompson, P. Pike and H. H. Mawley. The Hospital Boards’ Association advised that among the business at the forthcoming conference at Dunedin would be hospital policy regarding medical staffing and private wards and hospital board borrowing. Invitations had been extended to the British, American and New South Wales Associations to be represented. The Government National Provident Fund advised regarding the superannuation of hospital employes.—The secretary was instructed to notify the members of the staff as to joining. The Whatman Home.

Tn reply to the Central Committee’s {enquiry, Mr A. P. Whatman wrote stating the method employed, so far, in the maintenance of children in the Whatman Home. Failing payment by parents, the Board would be asked to contribute in certain cases. Mr Fisher said the Board should not be mulct in any shape or form. If the people were destitute the Education Department should be called 0D

Mr Eton said the Home was being Supported by Mr Whatman. Mr Whatman had not brought the matter before the Board. No action was decided on. Board Securities.

The Hospital Boards’ Association forwarded legal opinion regarding the inclusion of hospital board debentures in the list of authorised securities for trustees. At present the law' was that these were not authorised. The Minister had advised disapproval of the proposal. Mr Thompson said that it was in the interests of farming districts that these debentures be not freely {made investments for trustees. No action was taken. January 29 was fixed for the next {meeting of the Board.
