GIRL GUIDES.
ENROLMENT IN MASTERTON. TWO COMPANIES FORMED. An enrolment of 58 Girl Guides took place in St. Matthew’s Parish Hall last evening. Two companies, St. Matthew’s and Solway College, were enrolled in the presence of a good attendance of parents and friends. Apologies were received from Mrs W. H. Jackson and the Rev. W. Bullock. Miss M. E. Stewart, Provincial Captain (Wellington), who has recently strived from England, enrolled the girls, and in a little talk explained to them the responsibilities and privilege of being a guide. She expounded to the visitors the objects of the movement, which is, essentially, to make the girls good home-makers. She mentioned some of the badges which could be earned by the girls, such as ambulance, child nurse, infant care, toyznaking and cooking, and she stressed the importance of subjects such as these. Miss Stewart appealed to all interested to join the local association and 4io their best to influence friends to come forward as guiders. At* the close, Mrs W. Bullock, on behalf of St. Matthew’s Company, and Mrs M. Thompson, on behalf of Solway College Company, thanked Miss Stewart, who had so kindly given up her time in coming to Masterton and for such a helpful and interesting address.
The officers enrolled were Mrs Bullock (Captain) and Miss Spershott (Lieutenant) of St. Matthew’s Company, and Misses O. Smith (Captain) and M. Hervey (Lieutenant) of Solway College Company.
