The death, has occurred at Waimire, Weber, at the age of 61, of Mr Arthur Wilcox, father of MrS Souness and Mrs F. Thomas (Pongaroa). He was a unique figure in the back country, in that he went through all the hardships of a pioneer while suffering under the physical disability of blind** ness. He showed a marvellous aptitude in adapting himself to the difficulties of bush country. Born in Aerington, England, he' came to New: Zealand as a young man. For a time he engaged in farming in Canterbury. Subsequently he came to the North Island, opening a store at Ashhunt. Some 25 years ago he opened a store and blacksmith’s shop at Waimiro and engaged at the same time in farming.
