TO DUCK A DIVINE.

COAL STRIKE INCIDENT. BISHOP WELLDON threatened. LONDON, July 27.—While Mr Ramsay Macdonald was addressing the Durham miners’ gala condemning tho Government’s belated action in the coal crisis, and declaring that the coal trade must be organised nationally, to secure unification of production, wages and conditions, the Rt. Bov. Bishop Welldon, Dean of Durham, was seen approaching to address a temperance meeting, at tho conclusion of the gala speeches. The crowd jostled and rushed the Dean to tho river’s edge, intending to duck him. Tho police commandeered a passing motor boat and conveyed him to safety, minus his silk hat and umbrella. The demonstration was tho outcome of Dean Welldon’s references in some newspaper articles to the coal position. (A. and N.Z.)
