THE “BLACK” PEST.
ON AUSTRALIAN SHIPS. SYDNEY, Mar. 19.—The Seamen’s Union has decided to declare the steamer Eremanga “black” and it is unlikely that members of the Stewards’ and Pantrymen’s Association will man her. The local seamen are confident that they will be able to enlist the sympathy, and support of all maritime bodies in the States. The Returned Soldiers’ Union, however, has sufficient seamen in its ranks to man both the Eromanga and the Volumnia and anticipates little trouble in providing men for other departments if required.
A Union official states that many returned soldiers engaged in the carrying business in the city and suburbs have offered to eonvey the Volumnia’s cargo of consignees, despite the Trolley and Draymen’s Union’s decision. -(P-A.)
