SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS. (“The Age',’ Special.) Au Appeal. The appeal being made in Greytown for funds to help a family who lost their home by fire a few days ago, has already realised £49 12s t>d. Butterfat. The Pirinoa Dairy Company is making an advance of 1/2 per lb for butterfat td its suppliers. Card Tourney. The fortnightly eard tournament under the auspices of the Greytown Municipal Band was well attended. The prize winners were Mrs Cyril Grigg and Mr A. Playle (first), and Miss Brown and Mr W. Grigg (second); Mrs C. G. Bouzaid and Mr W. Adams (third), Miss Brannigan and Mr C. Grigg (consolation). Rifle Shooting.
The Turanganui Rifle Club has issued a challenge for the shield, and w ill meet the Featherston Club in the competition on Saturday. S.M. Court.
At a sitting of the Featherston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, before Mr S. L. P. Free, S.M., Thos. W. Harman, for having unlawfully in his possession a firearm (a revolver) was convicted and discharged. Tho revolver was ordered to be forfeited. W. Stoddart, for exceeding the speed limit in Fitzhcrbert street, was fined £1 ■ and 12s costs. C. W. Houghton, for a breach of his prohibition order, was fined £2 and 7s costs. On two charges of allowing a horse to wander, W. H. Wenham was convicted and mulct in fines totalling £2 and costs £2. ~
Rifle Shooting. The Greytown Defence Rifle Club will hold a practice match on Saturday, 15 shots at 300 yards and 10 at 000 yards. The aggregate will be the same, and Rfm. J. F. Thompson and T. Orr wih be range officers.
Mr Jas. Coe, of FeaherSton, is an inmate of the South Wairarapa hospital, where he was operated upon for appendicitis.
Obituary. The death occurred at Ahiaruhe yesterday morning of Mr Daniel Brown, who was for many years employed as coal man at Te Wharau for the Wairarapa South County Council. Deceased, who was born at Carlingford, Co. Louth, Ireland, came to the Wairarapa 30 years ago. He was 54 years of age. He had not enjoyed the best of health for some time. He leaves a widow, two boys and three girls, the eldest being 15 years old and the youngest 5 years. The funeral will take place to-morrow, leaving the residence, Ahiaruhe, at 12.30 for the Clareville Cemetery.
