PERSONAL.

The death has occurred at Dannevirke of Mr Samuel Tansley, aged 24 years, who was clerk of the Court. His Honour Mr Justice MacGregor and his associate (Mr Tattersail) left Masterton for Wellington yesterday.

Mr and Mrs R. F. R. Beetham left yesterday for Auckland to join the Aorangi en route for America and the United Kingdom. Dr. W. J. Reid, of Greytown, left yesterday for the South Island, oa a motor tour. Dr. Fulton will act as his locum tenens.

Mr D. W. Papps, who has been on the staff of the Greytown Post Office for the past three years, has received notice of his transfer to Otautau, Southland.

After a long illness the death took place at his residence, Palmerston N., of Mr John Coulter, aged 42. He was a brother of Mr W. Coulter, of Eketahuna.

A large gathering of members of the Justices of the Peace Association in Wellington assembled yesterday tc say farewell to Mr E. Page, S.M., who is about to leave on a trip to England. Mr Page was presented with a pair of prism field glasses. z At a meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association General Committee yesterday, resolutions of condolence were passed to Messrs A. MeLeod, H. T. Hume, A. D. McMaster, and Mrs S. R Lancaster, who recently suffered bereavements in their families.

Mr G. H. Murphy, whose death occurred in the Palmerston North hospital on Sunday last, at the age of 38 years, was well known in the Greytown district, having resided at Morison’s bush. He leaves a wife and four young children to mourn their loss.

In reply to a request that he allow himself to be nominated as a candidate for the Pahiatua Mayoralty, Mr P. Tulloch has replied that he will net be able to offer himself as a candidate. As president of the Chamber of Commerce he felt in honour bound to complete his term of office and considered that he could not do justice to both positions. Mr Tulloch will nominate for a seat on the Council.

Prior to his departure from Eketahuna the friends of Mr J. C. Bluek, of the Bank of New South Wales, met at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. Duff to bid him farewell. Moonlight jazz, billiards, songs and games termed very popular amusement. A guessing competition was won by Mrs Olsen and Mr Bluek. During the supper adjournment the Mayor (Mr W. Simpson) presented Mr Bluek with a number of gifts, ineluding a goldmounted fountain pen from those present. In doing so he spoke in high terms of Mr Block’s sporting qualities and the popularity and esteem in which he was held.
