BOWLING.

THE CHAMPION PAIRS. J. KERR (SKIP), D. F. THURSTON (LEAD). A great deal of enthusiasm was created in the championship pair. After Kerr and Thurston beat C. Perry and T Creswell in the semi-final they had to meet H. Perry (skip) and Wally Hunt (lead) in the final game. It was fully anticipated by a number of bowlers that Perry and Hunt would put down the champions, but on the contrary Kerr and Tlrurston ran out winners by 6 up and a head to play. On the 10th head the game stood Perry 15, Kerr 7. The leads were playing great bowls. On the 11th head Perry lay the shot and Kerr drew two beautiful shots right on the jack. Score 15 —9. Thurston here got hold of the changing green an dput two close to the kitty, Kerr adding another, and making the score —Perry 15, Kerr 12. On the 13th head Thurston lay one close to the pack, and after a splendidly played head by both skips the score stood Perry 15, Kerr 13. On the 14th head Perry played two great shots, making the score 18—13. On the 15th head Kerr got 4, making the score 18—17. On the 17th Kerr following up his lead’s two shots, and trailing the jack, made the head look very safe, but Perry’s last bowl slipped the jack round and got 2, making the score 20—17. On the 17th head Perry went wide, Kerr adding 2 to Thurston’s 1, making the score 20 all. The 18th head was well played by the leads, and Kerr, following up the advantage, scored another 3. The score now stood Kerr 23, Perry 20. At the 19th head Kerr got another 2, leading Perry by 5. On the 20th head all the players played good bowls. Perry ran cut Thurston’s shot, but Kerr pushed another of his lead’s bowls into shot, which remained, making the score Kerr 26, Perry 20. This is the fifth occasion on which Kerr and Thurston have won the club’s pairs championship. They are to be congratulated on such a meritorious performance. J. Kerr and D. F. Thurston will represent the Masterton Club in the champion of champions pairs, to be played at Carterton on Saturday, the 28th. MASTERTON CLUB.
