SIR CHARLES FERGUSSON.

"WILL DO HIS BEST." FAREWELL AT WATERLOO. (Presß Association— Copyright.) London, Nov. s.—At a farewell luncheon ut the Hotel Cecil, Sir James Allen, who presided, promised Sir Charles Fergusson a great welcome in New Zealand as successor to. Lord Jcllieoe, who had been a great success. Sir Charles Fergusson recalled vivid and pleasant memories of his early life in South Australia. He feared he had not many qualifications, but he was going to do his best. He paid a tribute to New’Zealand’s effort during the war, and mentioned that he had New Zealand artillery under his command in 1918. The wartime spirit of co-operation and self sacrifice would furnish the only solution for the present bad economic conditions and unemployment. The speaker declared that the policy of give and take between Britain and the Dominions was an\absolute necessity. The next five years would show a vast improvement In the general situ i : 'on' in Briti .n and the Dominions. He had the greatest sym pathy with the aims and aspirations of the Domiaions, and would dp his utmost to promote tho welfare of the people of New Zealand, out of genuine love and affection. Sir Charles Fergusson had a quiet farewell from Waterloo. Tho small crowd, which included a representative of the Colonial Office, consisted mostly of personal friends. Lord and Lady Liverpool and Sir Janies Allen were piesent.—(A, and N.Z.)
