WAIRARAPA SHOW.

PEOPLE’S DAY. A FINE WEATHER CROWD. Although rain threatened, it remained fine for the greater part of yesterday, and People’s Day of the Carterton show passed off successfully. The attendance was large and there was plenty of variety to retain the interest of the people. The motor parade, a new feature, proved a great attraction, and is likely to be repeated at future gatherings. The grand parade of stock wq,s carried out with the usual complete arrangements, and the people were given an excellent view of the many fine exhibits. The hacks were a fine class, and Mrs Hugh Gillies’s Captain Glossop again secured the championship. In draughts the following championships were awarded: —Stallion: R. P. Maxted’s Buchlyvie; reserve, A. Tooker. Mare: R. Kelby’s Dolly; reserve, A. Tooker. , W. Waddell won the Tooker gold medal for bringing in horses in the best show condition. As usual, the stewards 9 luncheon booth was a feature of the gathering, being in charge of Messrs J. C. Harp (marshal), W. Howard Booth, A. Clark, C. Reid and W. C. Deller. Captain Glossop. After the judging of the hacks was completed, Captain Glossop, Mrs Hugh Gillies’s well-known hack, Was ridden on to the lawn by Miss M. Perry, and there Mr J. G. Oates (president' of the Society) made the presentation to Mr Gillies of the Challenge Shield presented by the late Mr Donald McKenzie (Woodlands) for the best ladies’ hack, this trophy having been won six times and outright by Captain Glossop. Mr Oates also presented Mr W. A. Pike’s challenge cup for competition in the list hack class, this also having been won outright by Captain Glossop, who has won the competition five times. Mr Gillies returned thanks on behalf of Mrs Gillies, who was unable to be present at the show.
