AUCKLAND’S PRIDE.

CONCRETE WHARF SUBSIDES. BUILT IN 1921. Auckland, Oct. 28.—Some of the foundation piles of the western wharf collapsed shortly after noon. A portion is almost at water level and large fissures reveal the steel reinforcing girders. The side wall of large boulders concreted together fell to pieces and. seven piles on the other side snapped as if made of chalk. The engineer says the disaster was duo’to the stone wall built to support the wharf collapsing. The area that subsided is about 160 feet long, but about 300 feet will have to be rebuilt at a cost of about £20,000. The part that collapsed was built in 1921. The whole wharf is 1000 feet long and cost £95,000.—(P.A.)'
