FURTHER DEFERRED.

QUEEN CARNIVAL QUESTION.

(Our Travelling Reporter.)

In accordance with notice given, Mr J. G. Oates (president) moved at Saturday’s meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society that a Queen Carnival be held to raise funds for the society. Mr J. Hodder seconded.

Mr Reynolds hoped that if a carnival was held its success would be better than that recorded at Masterton. Mr Alf. Johnson advocated waiting a while.

Mr McLeod favoured something being done right away to reduce or wipe off the Society’s debt. Mr W. C. Dellar considered a big effort would meet with success if launched in six months time. Mr W. Howard Booth stated that unless taken up whole-heartedly they wore courting failure. If members became enthusiastic they could double their membership and in this manner wipe off the liabilities. Mr E. Eagle was in favour of deferring tho project. People were sick of carnivals.

Sir Walter Buchanan thought those opposing the proposal should suggest some better method of raising funds. Possibly a membership campaign might have the desired result. The president said in face of the opinions expressed he would withdraw the motion and bring it forward after the show.
