MONTH I-V M!i ETING. The monthly meeting of the general committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held yesterday, Mr J. M. James presiding. There were also present Messrs D. Smith, D. Ogilvy. G. H. Perry, P. M. Compton, J. McKenzie, D. McKenzie, N. Blatchf<rd, N. G. Rayner, R. Gray, C. J. Bennett, J. W. Colquhoun, K. J. Barton, W. Kemp, G. C. Saxton, L. R. Wilton, W. H. Buick, W. H. Ha/*combe, D. McGregor, W. G. Lamb. An apology was received from Mr W. V, Buick. The treasurer reported:—Receipts to date £5OBO 10s 2d, expenditure £4731 17s 4d, credit in working account £1164 19s, total bank debit £835 Is. Accounts amounting to £66 10s were passed for payment. The caretaker of the showgrounds reported that the Methodist boys in camp there recently had done considerable damage, including wire-netting on 15 bunks broken, a hinge and a pane of glass broken, two pillows destroyed and one wash basin damaged. It had taken 4$ days to clean up and repair the damage done. In reference to the Masterton A. and P. Association declining to contribute to the conference of the N.Z. A. and P. Associations of the North Island, the secretary of the latter body wrote stating that the Association was committed to membership under the signature of Mr W. H. Buick, who was then president, and hoped that this would not be repudiated.—A sub-com-mittee was set up to consider the rules and if satisfied to pay the affiliation fee. The action of a sub-committee of the executive officers in granting the free use of the Solway showgrounds for a farmers’ farm school fras endorsed. Mr G. H. Perry voluntered to act as guarantor at the bank in place of the McKillop Estate, which is to be relieved on June 30. Mr L. Jackson (Kopuaranga) was elected a new member. Three resignations were accepted. A request from the caterer for the farm school for the use of cooking utensils at ihe showgrounds was declined. A donation of a five guinea cup was received with thanks from Mr H. W. Lee for the best Southdown ram lamb (untrimmed) open only to Wairarapa breeders, to replace Mr Buick’s cup, which was won outright. The following remits to be presented at the annual conference were carried:—“That the free place and bursary system be readjusted so as to give more encouragement to agricultural and technical education;” “that the conference draws the attention of the Minister of Railways to the unfair practice of charging passengers attending A. and P. Shows by excursion trains ordinary fares up to 50 miles, and ask, that excursion fares be made available to passengers travelling to A. and P. Shows from any distance.”

A report of a sub-committee recommending several alterations to the ram fair catalogues was adopted. It was agreed that at the n.ext ram fair the sale open with Romneys on the first day and Lincolns and Southdowns on the second day, priority of the latter to be decided by ballot and alternately on subsequent years. A suggestion from the breeders and auctioneers that the minimum, opening bid be increased from 5 to 10 guineas was agreed to by the Association. It was also suggested that the catalogues be issued a week earlier. The Association was strongly against altering any show dates.
