! Mr. Kummer (Muurmeville) gave s most enjoyable tea at Hugo and Shear- ‘ or’s on Wednesday for Mrs C. Bennett. * The wedding took place recently at ’ Invercargill of Mr A. R. Carley (Pongaroa) to Miss A. M. White (Invercargill).
Mrs Macbean Stewart, Worksop road, and Miss Peggy Stewart, who have been spending some months in Wellington, have left to spend the winter months in Auckland.
Several farewell teas have been given lately for Mrs C. who, with Mr Graham and their son, leave Masterton next week to take up their residence in Wanganui.
The engagement is announced of Mr Rewi Speedy, son of Mr D. H. Speedy, Flag Creek, Tinui, to Miss Molly Bartholomew, daughter of Mr and Mrs F. W. Bartholomew, Taipo, Tinui.
The first visit of inspection made by Miss Margaret Dyer, the new inspector of domestic science courses, was to the Masterton Technical School and the Wairarapa High School.
Miss L. M. Ramsay, who has been transferred from the Fernridge to the Lyall Bay school, was yesterday farewelled by the pupils and committee and presented with a travelling rug and autograph album. Miss Ramsay leaves for Wellington in a few days.
Mrs W. F. Roydhouse (Carterton) who has been on a visit to Palmerston North, has returned home. She was accompanied by Mrs W. I. Lovelock, of Awapuni, her niece, on a visit to Carterton, her old home.
The engagement is announced of Miss Ethel Feast, daughter of Mr 8. W. Feast, and the late Mrs Feast, of Greytown, to Mr Sinclair 'inompson, of Papawai, Greytown, son of Mr and Mrs T. F. Thompson, formerly of Westpart.
Miss Einelie Polini, the English actress, who has been a marked favourite in Australia for the past five years, arrived in Wellington from Sydney, and left for America by the Tahiti. Miss Polini felt that she needed a rest, but hopes to return to Australia and New Zealand.
Mrs W. H. Jackson has received a letter of thanks from Mr Clntha McKenzie for cheque of £l7 6/7, proceeds of the sale of cigarettes at the recent Soldiers Sports. The money was raised in aid of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind at Auckland. Thanks also were expressed to the returned soldiers for their help.
Mrs Fred Rutherfurd, Gordon street, Lansdowne) has returned from the Rangitikei, having been one of a large house party at Mr and Mrs W. Miss Burgess (niece of Mrs Marshall) The occasion was the marriage of Miss Burgess (niece of Mrs Marshalls) and Mrs Douglas .Simpson (Hunterville). The wedding was the first to be celebated in the church erected on the Marshall Estate in memory of the boys who went to the war.
