The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, May 2. —Butter: Quiet; 170/ to 1772/ per ewt. Cheese: Quiet; 86/. Frozen meat: Wether mutton is in little better demand. The market for ewes is inclined to be weaker. The market for lambs has improved and the present demand is likely to continue. No quotations for beef. Wethers, light, 6£d to 7d; wethers, heavy, 5Jd to 64d; ewes, 4Jd to s£d; lambs, under 42’s to lOJd; lambs, over 42’s 9{d to 9|d; lambs, seconds, 9-jd to 9fd. The New Zealand Producers’ Cooperative Marketing Association:— Butter: Market slow. New Zealand, salted 170/ to 172/, unsalted 176/ to 178/; Australian, 160/ to 1662/; Argentine 148/ to 156/; Danish 202/; Dutch 186/. Danish price is due to Continental demand curtailing their supplies for this market. Cheese: Market quiet. New Zealand white and coloured, 84/ to 86/. Stocks of N.Z. and Canadian held cheese, 134,000 crates, not including 40,000 now discharging ex Matakana and Remuera. At same date last year, market price 94/, and stocks were only 38,000 crates. The heavy stocks are depressing the market, and buyers are only taking daily or weekly requirements in anticipation of lower prices.
