A RTLST ’8 CONTENTION. DIGNITY OF KINGSHIP. London, May 4.—Mr Charles Sims, replying to criticisms of the King’s portrait, says his idea was to give an accurate representation of. the. King, which had not been done for many years. “Most portraits,” said Air Sim. “show him as a young man with a brown beard; he is no longer young. His features exhibit the qualities of kingship with the weight of responsibility of such a position as he holds. If he were painted with a smile all the dignity would be removed.”—(A and N.Z.)
