AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

WAIRARAPA SUB-CENTRE. A meeting of the executive of the i Wairarapa Sub-Centre, N.Z.A.A.A., I was held in the Y.M.C.A. on Wednesday evening to consider the application of the Memorial Park Board for a permit to hold amateur athletic sports in connection with the Labour Day Carnival. The application was granted subject to the usual conditions, and the programme was approved, on the assurance of the secretary that everything was in order and in conformity with the N.Z.A.A.A. rules. It was resolved to recommend to the Wellington Centre for approval the Caledonian Society’s application to include a 2-mile provincial championship race on their New Year Day programme. MASTEBTON AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB. A meeting of the above was held in the Y.M.C.A. on Wednesday evening, Mr A. Woodley presiding. A letter was received from the Wellington Labour Day Celebration Committee asking the club to send a team of lady athletes to take part in the Labour Day sports and compote in the ladies’ relay race. As the Ladies’ Club will be taking part in the local Labour Day celebrations it was decided to reply regretting inability to assist in the direction requested. It was unanimously decided to comply with the request of the Memorial Park Board to undertake the control of the Amateur Athletic part of the programme in connection with the Labour Day Sports Carnival on the Memorial Park on Labour Day, October 22. For that purpose it w r as decided to hold a special meeting on Wednesday next to make the preliminary arrangements. The Social Committee were highly complimented on the successful results of the Club’s annual ball, and a special vote of thanks and appreciation was accorded the ladies’ committee. It was resolved to hold the annual meeting of the Club on October 10.
