W.S.C. v Congregational Social Club. The first match of~T.be season between teams representing the Winter Sports Club and the Co ng. ego Lionel Social Club took place in tho latter’s rooms on Tuesday evening and resulted in a win for the former by 8 games to I. The majority of the games were very evenly contested, particularly the doubles. The standard of play by both teams showed a decided improvement on that given last year. The Rev. H. Datson welcomed the visitors and Air James Allan responded on behalf of the w.S.C., making special mention of the ladies’ committee in charge c-f the supper arrangements. Following are the scores, the Winter Sports Club players being mentioned fidst: — Singles: Turner beat Masters, 31-12 31-16 31-11; Wilson beat Hayne 31-28 28-31 31-2 S 31-25; Vesty beat W. Hendry 31-10 31-22 31-22; Thompson beat C. Hendry, 30-32 31-28 31-22 31-25; Joy beat Rev. Datson, 31-24 31-27 34-32; Person beat Ascott 31-12 31-10 31-5.
Totals: Sports Clulb: 6 games, 18 sets 619 points. Social Club: 0 2 sets 422 points. ■Doubles: Vesty and Wilson beat AV. Hendry and Hayne, 31-29 31-23 31-33 20-31 31-24; joy and Person lost to C. and W. Hendry, 32-30 22-31 31-20 24-31 27-31; Turner and Thompson beat Datson and Ascott, 31-8 31-14 31-15. Totals: Sports Club: 2 games 8 sets 373 points; Social Club 1 game 5 sets 320 points. The quoits match resulted in a win for the Sports Club by 4 games to 2. Ap. ended are tht scores (the W.S.C. placers being mentioned first.—Wilson beat Frost 100-29; Vesty beat Hardiman 100-63; Joy beat Heaven 100-41; Wilton beat C. Hendry, 100-84 ; Thompson lost to Rev. Datson 72-100: Allan lost tz? Murray 73-100. Totals: Sports Club. 4 games 545 points; Social Club 2 games 417 points. The return match will take place ob Monday June 4, when an endeavour will be made to bring the Greytown team up to participate in a triangular tournament, particulars of which will be advertised later.
