Mr H. 'Grinstead, Area Organiser for the Prohibition Party, is visiting Masterton.
Cr F. W .Temple was last night elected deputy Mayor of the Masterton Borough. Mr J. A. Cowles, Inspector of Schools, made an inspection yesterday at St. Patrick’s School. Mr AV. H. Terry son of Mr G. Terry, Masterton, was successful in the recent accountancy examinations.
At the annual meeting of the Prohibition Party in Masterton last night Mr T. F .Watson was re-elected president, Mr J. Allan, treasurer, and the Rev J. Cocker, secretary. Mr F. W. Martin, Director of the Technical School, is attending the annual meeting of the Technical School Teachers’ Association in Wellington.
Crs T. Jordan and R. Russell and Mr W. Candy have been re-elected the Borough representatives on the Masterton Fire Board. All the Protestant ministers and the Salvation Army Captain in Masterton have been““ eTec ted vice-presi-dents of the Masterton branch nF the Prohibition party.
Sir Harry Lauder arrived in Wellington yesterday on the Mar am a and was accorded a civic reception, being lieartily welcomed “by the Mayor, the Rotary and other clubs and Scottish Societies.
The Masterton branch of the Prohibition party has passed a resolution of appreciation of the services of Mr W. Jz. Tennent, who was secretary for many years.
Af Dunedin on Monday the death occurred of the Rev. Alexender DoutT, M.A.. of Palmerston North. The reverend gentleman was visiting a specialist, and he entered the public hospital in that city for treatment.
The esteem in which the late Mrs A. Hannay was held was demonstrated by the very large number of people who attended the funeral on Saturday morning to pay their respects to the deceased’s memory, sayq. the “Palmerston North Standard.” An impressive service was conducted by the Revs. H. G. Blackbume and G. B. Stephenson at the late Mrs Hannay’s residence in Amesbury street, prior to the cortege, in which there were some 100 cars, proceeding to the cemetery. The pall-bearers were the brothers and brother-in-law of the deceased lady and relatives of Mr Hannay. Representatives of business houses and the societies with which Mrs Hannay had been connected were also present, while the floral tributes, numbering about 100, were a wealth of beauty. At the graveside the deceased lady’s favourite hymn.
‘On the Resurrection Morn” was iung by All Saints’ choir.
