R< ports are reaching New Zealand that it is sweeping all before it m the Picture World and, that whereve’it plays it is causing a tremendous ' sensation. The Universal Film Com- ■ pany are promising that “Foolish! Wives” will have an appeal to New 7 madder* as it has >in international ’ theme and appeal. Women will flock to see it for the glittering displays of the latest creations in gowns from London. Paris and New York. Gowns, jewellery and furnishings loaned to the Universal Company by the leading jewellers and Modistes of America and Europe are said to have been valued at over £280.000. The Universal Film Company footed the bill for the insurance as long as the articles were in use. The picture was presented simultaneously in Auckland and Christchurch and will have its initial screeing in Masterton on Wednesday next. COSY DE LUXE. “Heroes and Husbands” is Katherm© MacDonald's latest production showing at the Cosy de Luxe theatre to-night. Tn this new picture Miss MacDonald has the role of a successful novelist, who finds the man she caret* for i« the object of another woman’s affecti and she has tn exert all her f< ’v'nine ingenuity and (‘harm fn defeat her rival, who happens to he the wife of her’publisher. It is all verv ’ oer comedy up to a point where the story takes on a
highly melodramatic flavour, with the mysterious shooting of the publisher during a private theatrical performance at his country nome. The second big attraction is entitled “Hurricane Girl” a splendid eight reel melodrama. There is a matinee to-day at 2.30. PARAMOUNT. To-night the main attraction at the Paramount theatre will be the famous players production “The Conquest of Canaan” which is taken from Booth Tarkington’s famous novel of that name. The stellar role has been entrusted to Thomas Meighan who gives a very clever interpretation of his big par?. The picture which is 8000 feet in length is full of interest throughout. The straw of adventurous romance, the touches of humour and the blending of pathos combined to make the film a memorable success. To many the name of Thomas Meighan in the lead will suffice to ensure quality. A strong supporting progenuue inc l tides comedy, topical, and interesting evor.-ts. KING’S THEATRE, CARTERTON. A wonderful special attraction will lie shown at the above theatre, Carterton on Monday and Tuesday night, a magnificent pictunsation of that great classic “The Three Musketeers” the world famous book by Dumas. The leading role is taken by the great popular favourite Douglas Fairbanks and it is unquestionably his biggest and best- pcifure to date. This great picture is in eleven reels, and is filmed on a magnificent scale, expense not having being considered. It is indeed one of the very few outstanding attractions of the year, and should prove a delightful entertainment for young and old.
