SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL.

MEETING OF PARK COAIAHTTEE. A meeting of the committee was held last night, there being present Messrs D. K. Logan (chairman), W. G. Tennent, E. Bell, J. B. McKenzie, R. J. Southgate, W. Kemp and J. Caselberg. The architects (Alessrs Watson, Gooder. and Lee) reported that the base for the monument was well in hand and there was very little to do until the arrival of the marble from Italy; this had been delayed owing to the unrest and labour troubles. —It was decided to ask the architects to expedite matters. The monument account is still £4OO short, and this money is required within a few weeks.—lt was decided, that Messrs Logan, Bell and Southgate arrange for advertising for the raising of the £4OO. The architects reported that the grandstand should be completed in the contract time. Mr McKenzie reported that the improvements to the Oval were well in hand and would be completed in a few days.—The matter of the fencing required at the enclosure to the grandstand was left with Messrs McKenzie and Southgate to attend to. Alessrs Tennent, Bell and the secretary were authorised to execute an application to bring certain land under the provisions of the Land Transfer Act and Alessrs Bell and Tennent were authorised to execute an agreement with the N.Z. Rugby Union with reference to the loan. Alessrs Bell and Caselberg will adopt a common seal for the use of the new board.

It was decided to hold a “Paddy’s Market” in the winter to raise funds for current expenses, interest and sinking funds.
