SPORTING NOTES.

Maioha, which haA been off the scene lor just on 12 months, made a reappearance under .wlk on Saturday, when he was saddled up to contest, the Railway Handicap at thp Napier Park meeting. r Whe son of Hallowmas is evidently well forward, fur though he had 8.12 in the saddle, it was only by a head that he went under to Tairawhiti to which ho was conceding §3l b.

The two-year-old Razzle Dazzle, winner of the Prince of Wales Stakes, at Napier Park is a daughter of Kilbroney and the Symington mare Simper. Razzle Dazzle, who claims halfsistership to Affectation, was bred by her owner, Mr W. T. Hazlett. The first, second and third favourites filled these places in the Prince of Wales’ Stakes at Nap : er Park, which is-liows that the punting public knew something about the two year olds, even at this early stage of the proceedings.

Of Mr Greenwood’s home team Pluto appears the most likely stake earner. Trierman has gone wrong, and he had been relieved of his Dunedin engagements. Fleur iste, who ran second to h>. stable companion (Rostrum) in the I Epsom Handicap at the A.J.C. meeting, is a highly-bred English horse by Bonarosa from Fiorentina. A Press Association cablegram from Sydney state? that at a sale of thorough-breds yesterday Kelour realised 530 gur’neas. Mr A. B. William’s team will probably be divided'in the spring, but as to which places the various horses-will go wil not be decided until after the I Wellington spring meeting (writes “Whalebone”). It i..i, however, a.l- ■ most certaint that. Rapine will go to , Riccarton for the Derby, and King's , Trumpeter come north for the I Guineas at EllersVe. | All Cerise has now won over £9OO. 1 She will be given a chance to add to I I this amount at Wellington. She has ■ not been asked to do anything since] ! the Wanganui meeting, but will be , I put into work again at once. She looks [ i very well after her racing hero. Mark Time says “Flaneur.” is in at the minimum (6.12) in the Ma — ( terton Cup. If Mr Gaisford can -. secure a suitabe Lightweight. “Mark” may trouble the more fancied candidates, Omahu. Bonetter and Insurrection. In the Flying Handicap Ambitious (7.11) may run well. A Orreli and K. Tucker, who used to be attached to Mr W .R. Kernball’s stable, have been riding with a fair amount of success in Australia recentlv.

Mr C. F. Vallance’s hordes are to ridden by C. Stowe at the Opaki meeting. In connection with the demonstration made at Avondale against the judge (says an Auckland writer) after the Nurserv Handicap on Monday, it is interesting to chronicle that Mr George Currie, owner of Homage, who viewed J the race from the steward’s stand, was perfectly satisfied that Ballymena had defeated hi* filly.

i King Carnival, who won the Breeders* Plate of £2OOO at Randwick formed one of four yearlings sent up for sale in Melbourne in March last, by the late Mr J. V. Smith, when he was purchased on behalf of the Victorian sportsman, Mr L. K. 8. McKinnon, for GoDgns. Got from Comedy King (son of Persimmon) from the Wallace mare, Orveito. the strength of the St. I Simon—Musket line again receives a ■: noteworthy illustration. The imported gelding Auckland came in so lame after racing at ' Otaki that it may be sofhe time before he is seen out again. This is bad for h's owner, as th egelding was ' in better form than he had been since i his: arrival in New Zealand. 1 Kail, the winner of the Hack Hurdle Hace at the Napier Park meeting, ; is a six-year-old gelding by All Black I —Mrs. Wiggs. He won three times on the flat la. ; t may turn ; out useful as a hurdler.

Up to date Beauford has contested 24 races, and he has won 16 of his* engagements, while his earnings in stakes run out to about £13,200.
