Consideration was gvien by the Palmerston North Retailers’ Association to the question of having uniformity in regard to the closing hours of the retail establishment. The chairman, Mr J. Walla<ee, stated that at present they were closing at 12 o’clock on Wednesday and six o’clock on Saturday. Speaking for the employees, Mr Wallace though that, by closing at 12 o’clock on Wednesday, it was a “boon” to the employees who were thus enabled to get right away for the afternoon. It was not desirable, however, to close any earlier on Saturday, and the present time (six o’clock) should be altered. Mr C. J. Page took the view that the present arrangement met the convenience ot all and should therefore not be departed from. After speaking in support of the previous speakers, Mr N. H. Sinclair moved that they “adhere to the closing hours which have been in force for the last two or three years, and that the association also send a letter to any nrm deviating from these hours, requesting it to fall lin lino with the existing arrangement.” The motion was carried.
