A PIECE OF PRESUMPTION.
Fortunately the Government i.s not likely to adopt the course advised by Mr Wilford, leader of the official Opposition, and to push forward Sir Robert Stout as a suitable person to arbitrate regarding Ireland’s share of the debt liability under the new treaty. Sir Robert would undoubtedly adjudicate very fairly in the matter, but the New Zealand Government would look rather silly if, before the ink on the treaty is dry—before even Ulster has officially signified her adherence—it nominated anybody to carry out some of the subsequent adjustments. Too much enthusiasm is a bad thing.
