THE COSY Sessue Hayakawa, the celebrated .Japanese star, gives a performance of surpassing merit in "Li Ting Lang" at the Cosy Theatre. The scenes are laid in America and China, in an atmosphere of college life, statecraft and society. "Li Ting Lang’’ is on*» of those delightful photo-dramas evenly peppered with virile commanding action and- the exotic appeal of the Orient. Doris Pawn’s frosh young beauty and her capable acting do much to set off Hayakawa’s excellent work The remainder of the cast is equally good. The settings are sumptuous ana beautiful and in striking good taste. Humorous and topical supports complete a splendid bill which will be shown finally to-night.

THE PARAMOUNT Billie Rhodes, the vivacious little star, is seen in an unusually excellent picture "The Lamb and the Lion," her latest production at the Paramount Theatre. Aliss Rhodes plays the part of "Boots," a waif who has been adopted by the leader of a gang of crooks. In an attempted robbery "Boots" is captured by the society woman whose house was being burglarised, and imposed on by her frien Is as a girl of good family. "Boots" is an ingratiating little vagabond who shocks the society dames by her daring and unconventional capers. Mystery, romance and the machinations -of high society intrigue arc exposed in a play that vibrates with thrilling situations. A good supporting pro gramme greatly assists this feature. OPERA HOUSE. COMMENCING THURSDAY NEXT. Sari, a beggar girl on the streets of Constantinople, enters the Aya Sophia Mosque, where women are for-

bidden, to cleanse her soul. She has attracted the attention of Captain Pemberton, an American soldier ol fortune commanding the Black Horse Troop, who lias been warned to beware of her because her soul is as the filth in the street. The mosque also is the secret trysting place of a young American and the favourite wife of Achinet Hamid, a powerful sheik. Hamid suspects his wife and waits for her at the mosque, and seeing Sari enter, disguised by a veil and followed by the American, the sheik plunges a dagger in his back. Sari is unabje to denounce the murderer, because she had committed a crime in entering the mosque; but fearing jher possible revelation the sheik sends an emissary to Sari's mother offering marriage to the beggar girl. In the meanwhile Captain Pemberton has gone to the desert to quell a local uprising and on his return learns that Sari is to marry a wealthy sheik that night. Bribing the emissary, who is to act as proxy in the civil ceremony, Pemberton has his name substituted for that of Hamid and marries her himself. The sheik discovers the trick, kidnaps both Sari and Pemberton and takes them to hisdesert stronghold. Sar escapes, rides through the sands to the camp of the Black Horse Troop, and summons the dusky warriors to the rescue of their commander. Tin wild ride across the desert, the battle at the city’s gates and the final triumph of justice and love, are told in a series of the most stirring scenes in “The Virgin of Stamboul,” starring Priscilla Dean, to be shewn ai the Opera House on Thursday next.
