TILDEN DEFEATED. Vancouver, July 23.—A message from New York says that Vincent Richards defeated William Tilden m the final round of the Rhode Island singles. The world’s champion went down, losing three sets out of four. DAVIS CUP TEAMS. Pittsburg, Aug. 2. —Both the British and Australasian tennis teams are practising on the Allegheny County Club’s courts, on which the Davis Cup matches will be played. The Australasians express confidence that they will make, a better showing that they did in Canada. Anderson and Tod will play in the doubles, Anderson and Hawkes engaging -in the first day’s singles. Woosnam and Turnbull are likely to play in the British doubles, and Lowe and Woosnam in the singles. COURTS FOR DAVIS CUP. (Received 10.35 p.m.) New York, Aug. 3.—Although much rain has fallen, the tennis courts at Sewickley, a suburb of Pittsburg, where the Australasian Davis Cup team are to play England, have been kept in fine condition, being covered with large tarpaulins. The captains of both tea:ns announced that they are perfectly satisfied with the arrangements. —(A. and N.Z.)
