THE Wairarapa Age MORNING DAILY. FRIDAY, AUGUST 5, 1921. THE RAILWAY OUT.
From what we '•an learn of the railway cut, which will come into operation on August 14, the Wairarapa has nothing to complain of. It is obvious to every business man that in view of the shrinkage of traffic and the great expense of operating the lines some curtailment of services must be effected. The cut applies only to the section between Masterton and Woodville, and the effect is roughly to compress the traffic as nearly as possible in daylight hours. The mixed trains leaving here in the early morning for Woodville are to run only three days in the week, and the 5.31 p.m. train, which gets to Woodville about 9 p.m., is to run somewhat earlier. The same course is being adopted north of Woodville. There will, of course, bo some slight dislocation of local arrangements, but the main industries of the Wairarapa will not be adversely affected. The Acting-Minister indicates that if business improves during the next three mouths the old services may be reinstated.
