BOWLING.
PARK CLUB’S REPOT Following is the sixth annual report of the Masterton Park Bowling Club, to be presented at the meeting on Tuesday: Your committee has again to congratulate members on a very successful season. Starting in the year 1916 the Club has each season gradually improved its position and at present compares very favourably, both in its standard of play and numerically with most of the older Bowling Clubs in the Wairarapa Centre. The advent of the Saturday half holiday has given very great impetus to winter sports and will also undoubtly do the same to summer sports; and our Club, with others will no doubt benefit considerably. In the Booth Cup and Sheild competitions last season our representatives worthily unheld the reputation, of the Club, being only half a point behind the winners (Featherston) in the cup, and fairly well up in the Shield. In the Bell Challenge Shield for competitions between the Park and Masterton Clubs 18 matches were played for this trophy during the season, of which Masterton won the majority. Our representatives (Wilton, Gibson, T. Carr, Renai (s) were victorous in the concluding game and are holders for the year. Several games were played for the Pointon Pairs between the same Clubs, Duncan and Groombridge (Park) being the present holders. Our colts were very keen and had a series of very interesting club unsuccessful contests with the Mastertow colts for the Beale Badges. Six rinks represented the Club in the New Zealand Tournament. A progressive Pair Tourney was held on Anniversary Day for the Trophies kindly donated by the Petone Central Club, and some very fine bowling resulted, the winners being Swinerd (leads) and Staples (skips). 1h our own Club competitions, Blane, Stevens. Finlayson, Black (s) hold the W.F.C.A. Cup; Kilgour. Faulkner. T. Carr, Renai (s) the Daniell Cup; Rolph and Finlayson, the Ewington medal, and Bailey and Swinerd the McEwen Ferns. ' The Champion singles were again won by R. H. Price, who played very consistently. It is a matter for regret that we did not fulfil our engagement with the Petone Central Club and we should endeavour to pay a visit during the coming season. While our total membership shows a slight decrease we are really stronger in active players than in any previous season, those members dropping out being mostly honorary. Our finances are m n hoalthv position with a credit balance cf £l5 6s Od.
