Mr A. J. R. Isherwood, of Palmerston North, is leaving shortly for England.

The Hon. George Fowlds has been re-elected chairman of the Auckland University College Council. Colonel Melvill, officer commanding the Central Military District, returned to Palmerston North yesterday.

The Hon. G. J. Anderson is making a good recovery after his operation, and may be able to leave the hospital in three weeks.

Mr George Lovy, of the staff of the General Post Office, Wellington, is at present relieving Mr S. Cumming, postmaster at Masterton, who is on annual leave.

Air Maurice J. Nathan, managing director in London of the well-known dairy produce firm of J. Nathan and Co., spent a day or two in Mastertoil partly on business and partly to visit his uncle, Mr Al. Caselberg. Mr Nathan remains in New Zealand until the end of the year, Mrs Nathan having taken a house in Palmerston North. During the war Mr Nathan was an active member of the volunteer motor reserve in London, who were on duty throughout every night transporting soldiers from station to station across the city.

A pleasant ceremony took place at the annual meeting of the Masterton Bowling Cluh last night, when Mr J. Wingate, president, presented the following with trophiesMr J. Kerr, for champion singles and champion fours; Air D. F. Thurston, champion pairs and champion lead of the season; Mr F. R. Evans, champion colt; Mr R. Spackman, club fours; Mr D. Guild, club fours. Mr G. Hayne, the club’s secretary, was also the recipient of a presentation from members. Air Hayne has resigned his position, and the president referred in eulogistic strain to the manner in which he had carried out his duties. The president, on behalf of Saturday players, accepted the Wairarapa Centre champion shield.
